In what promised to be a game changer, this years election has seriously underwhelmed on the digital front.
Julia Gillard promised us there would be “no spendathon” this election campaign however both the PM and Tony Abbott have failed to leverage social media and instead opted for prime time TVC campaigns, print ads and printed material arriving into our letter boxes at a rate so frightening that you can practically hear tree plantations being mowed down.
Both PM Gillard and Tony Abbot had a once in a lifetime opportunity to change the way pollies campaign in Australia. It worked for Barack Obama after all. So why not take advantage of this relatively inexpensive, almost completely carbon free way of communicating?
We can see how the Liberals probably don’t want to let Tony loose with 140 characters and twit pic….
